A little relief with Salmon Costs but is it long lived?

Everyone is familiar with the salmon situation over the past year. The Chilean ISA (infectious salmon anaemia) outbreak and closures of most farming operations. Volcano's disrupting air freight. Tough winter in Norway delaying new production. Demand higher than ever has created a market that almost priced everyone from keeping fresh salmon on their menu. Newest reports show lower prices due to the Norwegian influx into the market and the Alaskan wild season brings a welcomed alternative which naturally lowers prices.

Thank goodness the trend you see above has made a drop in June and will continue in July.

There is very little frozen supply to fall back on this year. Meanwhile, Norwegian production has been hit by a particularly hard winter this year after two consecutive mild winters.

Now with fresh Wild Alaskan Sockeye, Keta Chum, Kings. Norway Ireland Scottland and the USA producing farmed salmon the next few months should be great for pricing and availability. September will begin the next trend we will see. I don't think we will ever see the day again that salmon is less expensive than domestic farm raised catfish but we can follow these pricing trends and make long term deals to ensure stable pricing for these short periods.
